Last week I shot with Eboni Kirkland and as I told a group of my colleauges in an email asking for critique of the work, “I tried to do something new, with something old.” I wanted to take my natural gravitation bright, beautiful window light and try something new so I shot later in the day when there was almost no light at all. Not a mind blowing revelation, but a simple one that changes the mood and feel of the picture.
When we were shooting, it was challenging to work with slow shutter speeds. I have never liked shooting with a tripod so all of my work is tripod free. This is not because I’m some kind of tripod elitist. I personally feel very restricted being clipped in… I love to move around a lot (probbably the adhd). The resulting soft cool colors and smooth gradations of light were really wonderful to work with.
