Portraits of Gender Fluid, Trans Gender and Non-Binary Beauty
Celebrating diversity and self-expression, Jonathan Hanson’s New York City portrait series presents gender fluid and androgynous individuals with dignity and nuance, redefining what modern portraiture can represent. Tracy Shaw, 19, resides in Philadelphia, PA and is pictured as part of the portrait series, "Androgynous". “Androgynous” is a portrait series focusing on people with a single sex who have a combination of both masculinity an femininity in their physical appearance. The subjects are a mix of people who identify with different sexual orientations and genders, breaking assumptions based on current prescribed gender roles. Through the series, I hope to challenge current gender classification and question the way they see current culture gender frameworks and beauty. Through the series I propose male and female dualities are interconnected and complementary forces instead of opposing, thus creating a fluid spectrum of gender and sexuality where the whole is greater than the parts. NYC portrait photographer Jonathan Hanson explores identity and self-expression through a portrait series featuring gender fluid and androgynous individuals, a powerful body of work recognized by The Washington Post for its honest and inclusive storytelling.
